How to Use SetAura

Choose Your Genre

The fastest way to start: pick a genre from the chip grid in the Essentials tab. BPM range auto-fills to that genre's conventional range — override it later in Fine-Tune if you need to.

Set the Vibe

Choose the mood and energy of your set. This shapes the emotional journey — whether you're going dark and intense, euphoric and uplifting, or deep and hypnotic.

• The mood influences track selection, key relationships, and mix notes throughout the set

Set Your Parameters

Fine-tune the BPM range, occasion, duration, and track count. The BPM range is already set by genre but you can override it — SetAura will auto-correct if min exceeds max.

• BPM range: tweak for energy variation. A wider range allows more dynamic sets
• Occasion is auto-set by your vibe card choice — Club Main Room, After Party, Festival, or Small Bar — with more options in Fine-Tune
• Duration and track count are independent — longer sets with fewer tracks = longer mixes per track

Your Last Settings Are Remembered — When you come back to the builder it reopens with the settings you last used (genre, vibe, length, BPM, tracks, era, level, artists, label and key lock). They are stored only in this browser. Blend, the starting and closing tracks, gig context and a drawn arc are not remembered. Tap Start fresh to clear them.

Merge With Another Genre (Pro) — Turn on the merge under Fine-Tune, pick a second genre and a ratio, and SetAura shows exactly how many tracks to expect from each (for example 8 and 4 out of 12). The set is built to land on that split.

Finish on a Track — Need to land on a specific closer, or hand over to the next DJ on a known track? Search for it next to Start From a Track. The set ends on that track and the tracks before it are steered so the final mix is a legal harmonic move. It takes priority over Key Lock end.

Make it Fresher — Whenever your era covers more than one year, a Fresher control appears under the era chips: Lean newer or Newest first tilts the pick toward recent releases without dropping tracks that mix well. It never overrides key and BPM matching, and it hides itself on a single-year era, where every track is already the same age.

Start From a Track — Playing a particular track and want the set to open with it? Search for it under Fine-Tune, pick it, and SetAura starts the set with that track and mixes on from its key and tempo. Clear it any time to go back to a normal opener.

Release Era Filter — Use the era chips to lock your set to a specific time period: Pre-2000, 2000s, 2010s, 2015+, 2018+, 2020+, 2023+, or the current-year-only chip. The algorithm strongly prefers tracks from your chosen era while still filling gaps if needed.

Select Your DJ Level

Your experience level shapes the complexity of the set. Beginner sets use simpler key relationships and obvious transitions. Professional sets use full harmonic key precision with complex energy modulation.

• Beginner: Same-key or adjacent keys, crowd-friendly anthems, simple transitions
• Intermediate: Key-compatible mixing, dynamic flow, genre-aware selections
• Advanced: Complex harmonic moves, technical mixing notes, underground selections
• Professional: Full harmonic key wheel navigation, expert energy arc, curator-level choices

Read Your Set — Arc, Mix Check & Flow

SetAura generates a complete set with a mix flow strategy, animated energy arc, mix transition scores, full tracklist, and DJ tips. Each track includes BPM, harmonic key, energy rating, subgenre, and specific mix notes.

• The SVG Energy Arc is an animated waveform with a colour spectrum (indigo → orange → purple) — click any point to jump to that track
• Mix Check scores every transition: key compatibility and BPM delta — look for Smooth, Good, Tricky, and Rough badges. Under each one, a plain-English line explains why it works (or what to watch) and how to mix it. Hover a transition pill on the tracklist for the same explanation
• Why this set sums up the set in plain facts: the key path, how many transitions stay in key, the tempo span, how many picks have charted or are by top artists, and the era
• A short note under the Energy Arc explains what energy means here: a 1 to 10 score for how driving a track is within its genre, closely following tempo, not loudness or mood. A ~ marks an estimate
• Mix Flow gives you the strategic overview — how to approach each section
• Mix Notes on each track give specific advice for mixing it in and out
• Nudge it — Under the set, More energy, Less energy, Faster and Slower re-pick only the tracks furthest from what you want. The opener, the closer and the other tracks stay, and the new picks are chosen to mix into their neighbours. Energy here follows tempo intensity. Locking tracks or using Rebuild Selected works the same way now
• Peak tracks are highlighted in orange — your main room moments

Swap Tracks & Personalise

Not feeling a track? Click "⇄ Swap" on any track to reveal 3 curated alternatives — each with BPM, harmonic key, and a specific reason why it works in that position.

• Alternatives are pre-generated with the set — no extra AI calls needed
• Each alternative maintains harmonic compatibility with surrounding tracks
• Click the icon on any alternative to search for it on Beatport instantly

Track Feedback — Hit 👍 or 👎 on any track. Ratings are a shared, site-wide signal — thumbs up nudges a track to surface more often for everyone, thumbs down less, always within what's harmonically and energetically correct for the slot.

Export, Share & Buy

Once your set is ready, export it in multiple ways or start buying tracks. SetAura is Beatport-exclusive for purchasing — every track links straight to its real Beatport page.

Use Set Versioning

Every set you generate is automatically saved as a version. Generate multiple variations — different moods, different energy arcs — then compare and restore the best one.

• Combined with Set History, you never lose a great set again
• On any saved set in Set History (Pro), Reopen takes you back to the builder with all its settings filled in: genre, vibe, length, BPM, era, level, artists, label, blend, key lock and starting track. Press Forge to build a fresh set from them. Gig context and a custom-drawn energy arc are not carried over

Meet Aura

Aura is SetAura's built-in AI DJ assistant — the chat bubble bottom-right. Ask it anything: "What should I open with?", "Any rough transitions in my set?", "How do I mix out of an 8A track?"

• Aura can see the set you're currently looking at — the real tracks, keys, BPMs and roles — so it answers about your actual tracklist, not generic advice
• It also has deep general DJ knowledge for anything beyond your current set — harmonic theory, BPM, arc structure, gear, genres
• Works at any point in your session — before or after generating a set

Warm-Up Set

Warm-Up Set — After building your main set, click "Build Warm-Up" in the toolbar. SetAura generates a 45-minute warm-up set with lower BPM and energy, tuned to lead naturally into your main set.

• BPM is automatically set 8–12 BPM below your main set's opening BPM
• Energy arc peaks just below your main set's opening energy level
• Harmonic keys are chosen to resolve naturally into your main set's first track

Reading the Crowd Live

A generated set is a plan, not a script. The floor tells you within a few tracks whether to follow it exactly or adapt — watch for people arriving vs. drifting to the bar, hands up vs. phones down, and whether the room is still filling in or already full.

• Room still filling? Hold your peak tracks back — pull up an alternative via Swap to stretch the build instead of peaking to an empty floor
• Floor's already hot early? Bring a peak track forward — SetAura's harmonic ordering still holds since every alternative is pre-checked for key compatibility with its neighbours
• Energy dropping mid-set? A well-timed familiar/anthemic swap resets the room faster than pushing on with the plan
• Keep a couple of extra generated versions (see Set Versioning above) with different energy curves — a faster-building version ready to switch to is easier than reordering on the fly

Building a Festival Set

Festival slots run on different rules than a club night: shorter, fixed time slots, sound bleeding in from neighbouring stages, a crowd that turns over constantly, and an audience that decides in the first 30 seconds whether to stay.

• Set Occasion to Festival in Fine-Tune — it widens track selection toward bigger, more recognisable, more anthemic choices over deep/underground cuts
• Widen your BPM range a little more than you would for a club set — festival crowds tolerate (and reward) bigger tempo swings between an anthemic peak and the next build
• Front-load impact — with a fixed slot and a crowd that wasn't necessarily there for you specifically, you often can't afford a slow 20-minute warm-up the way you can at a club residency
• Pick Advanced or Professional DJ level for a wider, more dynamic energy arc — festival sets typically move through more peaks and drops than a steady club arc
