How to Use SoundForge

Everything you need to build professional DJ sets — from Venue Mode to Mix Check, DNA Cards to Gig Briefs.

You're not just picking tracks, you're engineering a journey.

01

Start with Venue Mode or Choose Your Genre

The fastest way to start: pick one of the 6 Venue Mode presets at the top of the builder. One tap configures every parameter for your room type automatically.

  • Club Main Room — Tech House/Techno, 128–136 BPM, high energy, 2 hours
  • Festival Stage — peak-time anthems, wide BPM range, maximum energy arc
  • Small Bar — Deep/Afro House, 118–124 BPM, relaxed mood
  • Afterparty, Rooftop, Wedding — each preset tuned for the vibe
  • Or skip presets and pick your genre manually — 36 genres, BPM auto-sets
02

Set the Vibe

Choose the mood and energy of your set. This shapes the emotional journey — whether you're going dark and intense, euphoric and uplifting, or deep and hypnotic.

  • 10 mood options from Energetic and Dark & Intense to Sexy & Smooth and Late Night
  • The mood influences track selection, key relationships, and mix notes throughout the set
03

Set Your Parameters

Fine-tune the BPM range, occasion, duration, and track count. The BPM range is already set by genre but you can override it — SoundForge will auto-correct if min exceeds max.

  • BPM range: tweak for energy variation. A wider range allows more dynamic sets
  • Occasion influences track selection — Club Night picks dance floor tracks, Bar/Lounge picks more subtle cuts
  • Duration and track count are independent — longer sets with fewer tracks = longer mixes per track

Release Era Filter — Use the era chips to lock your set to a specific time period: Classic (pre-2010), 2010s, 2018+, 2022+, 2024+, or This Year. The algorithm strongly prefers tracks from your chosen era while still filling gaps if needed.

04

Select Your DJ Level

Your experience level shapes the complexity of the set. Beginner sets use simpler key relationships and obvious transitions. Professional sets use full harmonic key precision with complex energy modulation.

  • Beginner: Same-key or adjacent keys, crowd-friendly anthems, simple transitions
  • Intermediate: Key-compatible mixing, dynamic flow, genre-aware selections
  • Advanced: Complex harmonic moves, technical mixing notes, underground selections
  • Professional: Full harmonic key wheel navigation, expert energy arc, curator-level choices
05

Read Your Set — Arc, Mix Check & Flow

SoundForge generates a complete set with a mix flow strategy, animated energy arc, mix transition scores, full tracklist, and DJ tips. Each track includes BPM, harmonic key, energy rating, subgenre, and specific mix notes.

  • The SVG Energy Arc is an animated waveform with a colour spectrum (indigo → orange → purple) — click any point to jump to that track
  • Mix Check scores every transition: key compatibility, BPM delta, and energy delta — look for SMOOTH, WARNING, and ROUGH badges
  • Mix Flow gives you the strategic overview — how to approach each section
  • Mix Notes on each track give specific advice for mixing it in and out
  • Peak tracks are highlighted in orange — your main room moments
06

Swap Tracks & Personalise

Not feeling a track? Click "⇄ Swap" on any track to reveal 3 curated alternatives — each with BPM, harmonic key, and a specific reason why it works in that position.

  • Alternatives are pre-generated with the set — no extra AI calls needed
  • Each alternative maintains harmonic compatibility with surrounding tracks
  • Click the icon on any alternative to search for it on Beatport instantly

Track Feedback — Hit 👍 or 👎 on any track to tell the algorithm your preference. Thumbs up increases how often that track is recommended; thumbs down reduces it. Your ratings persist across sessions and shape every future set you build.

07

Export, Share & Buy

Once your set is ready, export it in multiple ways or start buying tracks. Store links are genre-aware — always the right platform for your music.

  • Copy Tracklist: Copies a formatted text version to your clipboard
  • Gig Brief: Generates a professional one-page brief with venue, set time, and full tracklist — perfect for promoters or your own reference
  • DNA Card: Creates a shareable image of your set's energy arc and peak tracks — post it on socials
  • Story Card: Export a 1080×1920px vertical image of your set — ready for Instagram Stories or TikTok.
  • Rekordbox XML: Download a Rekordbox-ready playlist file. Import via File → Import Playlist in Rekordbox.
  • Serato / M3U: Download a universal .m3u playlist compatible with Serato DJ, Traktor, and most DJ software.
  • Embed Widget: Get an iframe code to embed your set on any website or blog
  • Buy buttons: Click to open any track directly on Beatport — the only purchase platform SoundForge uses
08

Use Set Versioning

Every set you generate is automatically saved as a version. Generate multiple variations — different moods, different energy arcs — then compare and restore the best one.

  • Up to 10 versions stored automatically in your browser
  • Click Versions in the toolbar to see all saved versions with timestamps
  • Restore any previous version instantly — no data lost
  • Combined with Set History, you never lose a great set again
09

AI DJ Chat

AI DJ Chat — The chat bubble (bottom-right) opens a built-in DJ assistant that knows your current set. Ask it anything: "Why did you pick this key sequence?", "Suggest an opener for 2am", "What should I play after track 6?" — it answers in context.

  • The assistant has full awareness of your current set's tracklist, keys, BPMs and energy arc
  • Ask for harmonic alternatives, mixing advice, or crowd-reading tips
  • Works at any point in your session — before or after generating a set
10

Warm-Up Set

Warm-Up Set — After building your main set, click "Build Warm-Up" in the toolbar. SoundForge generates a 45-minute warm-up set with lower BPM and energy, tuned to lead naturally into your main set.

  • BPM is automatically set 8–12 BPM below your main set's opening BPM
  • Energy arc peaks just below your main set's opening energy level
  • Harmonic keys are chosen to resolve naturally into your main set's first track
